During the school year 2009/2010 we worked very hard to attain our third greenflag for conserving water. A huge congratulations to our committee who were successful in getting the flag and who were presented with the flag at the awards ceremony in Croke Park. St. Matthews will be celebrating this achievement with our own Flag Raising Ceremony early in the new school year, 2010/2011 with a guest visitor present on the day to raise the flag. We would like to thank Keith Lee our parent representative who has been brilliant in helping us to work towards saving water. We will be looking for a new parent representative to join us in going forward with our new theme. If you are interested please speak to Ms. Browne.‘Water is precious, all deserve it,
Please be careful and conserve it’

From September 2010 we will be beginning work on our 4th greenflag which will be based on the theme of ‘Travel’. Our 1st step will be to elect new members from 1st to 6th class to join past members on the greenschool’s committee. We will then be beginning our ‘Environmental Review’ and working through the 7 steps. In the summer term of 2010 our May assembly hosted by Junior Infants and Pre-School was on the theme of ‘Walking to School’ and as part of this we would like to thank Dublin City Council who provided us with new bicycle racks for our school.
Greenschool’s 7 steps to achieve our 4th greenflag:
Step 1: Committee
Step 2: Environmental Review
Step 3: Action Plan
Step 4: Monitoring and Evaluating
Step 5: Curriculum Work
Step 6: Informing and Involving
Step 7: Greencode
