Kindness, Curiosity, Bravery

Our mission at  St. Matthew’s is to create a school where every child thrives academically, socially and emotionally.

In everything we do we’re guided by our three core values.  You will see these all over our school - in posters on walls, but also in the ways children and staff interact with each other.

Kindness helps us build a culture of care and respect. We teach children to look out for one another, celebrate difference and make everyone feel welcome.

Bravery empowers pupils to be themselves, speak up for fairness and support others, safe in the knowledge that they’ll be listened to.

They grow in confidence and engage more fully in the life of our school.

Curiosity encourages children to appreciate ideas and experiences outside of their own.

They learn to see things through fresh eyes and to appreciate that different perspectives make our community stronger and life richer and more interesting.

Together, these values shape a school where tolerance and inclusion are lived every day, and where every child feels they can really be themselves

Cliodhna O'Reilly, Principal of St Matthew's NS

Message from the principal, Cliodhna O’Reilly

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to St. Matthew’s National School

I was appointed Principal in May 2023, bringing over 20 years’ teaching experience and a deep passion for the power of education to enhance children’s lives. It’s an honour to lead St. Matthew’s and to work closely with our talented team of mainstream teachers, SETs and SNAs, and our super-organised secretary, Lynn.

We recognise that school is about learning - not just facts and figures, but about navigating friendships and taking part in activities inside and outside the classroom.

To help prepare children for life in the 21st century, St. Matthew’s staff foster a love of learning right across the curriculum, promoting key skills like collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.

We are extremely grateful for the support, generosity and camaraderie of the parents and families of our pupils, as well as the Parents’ Association, the Board of Management and the wider community.

Our website gives you a glimpse of school life at St. Matthew’s - of the unique and positive environment here. We never forget that laughter and fun are the key ingredients of a happy, well-rounded education.
